SAP TM for transportation networks that outgrew LE-TRA.
We design and deliver SAP TM for shippers and logistics service providers where freight volume, carrier complexity or multimodal transportation planning have outgrown classic LE-TRA — freight unit building, tendering, charge calculation and execution integration.
Transportation planning: freight units, freight orders, planning profiles
Transportation planning quality in SAP TM depends on how freight units are built and how planning profiles group them into freight orders. We configure freight unit building rules, planning profiles and optimizer settings around the actual shipment patterns of your network — rather than deploying generic defaults that planners end up overriding manually every day.
- Freight unit building rules aligned to order, delivery or item-level consolidation needs
- Planning profile and stage determination design for road, rail, sea and air modes
- Manual and optimizer-assisted planning workbench configuration
- Capacity and lane-based planning for repetitive network structures
Carrier integration and tendering
Where carrier selection is not a fixed assignment, we configure freight order tendering — sequential, broadcast or exchange-based — against a carrier rate and capacity model that reflects real contractual terms. Carrier collaboration is built on B2B integration (EDI/API) so tender responses, status updates and shipping instructions flow without manual re-keying.
- Tendering strategy design: rule-based, cost-based or manual carrier selection
- Carrier B2B integration for tender, confirmation and track-and-trace messages
- Rate table and freight agreement configuration by carrier and lane
Charge calculation and freight settlement
We implement SAP TM's charge calculation engine — scales, calculation sheets and rate tables — to price freight orders accurately against contracted terms, and configure freight settlement so approved charges flow into invoicing or self-billing without a manual reconciliation step. This is usually where the business case for a TM project is made: fewer disputed invoices and faster settlement cycles.
Execution integration with SAP EWM and S/4HANA
Transportation does not run in isolation from warehouse execution or logistics execution in S/4HANA. We design the integration between SAP TM and SAP EWM for dock and yard-driven loading scenarios, and between SAP TM and S/4HANA logistics execution for shipment-driven or delivery-driven processes, so that transportation status, delivery status and warehouse execution stay consistent across systems.
- TM–EWM integration for loading, dock scheduling and yard-driven transportation execution
- TM–S/4HANA logistics execution integration for delivery-based and order-based processes
- Transportation visibility and event management across the execution chain
Migration from classic LE-TRA to SAP TM
Moving from LE-TRA shipment processing to SAP TM is a functional redesign, not a like-for-like technical swap — LE-TRA has no direct equivalent to freight unit building, tendering or the TM charge calculation model. We assess current shipment cost documents, custom transportation logic and interfaces first, then design a target TM process model and a cutover approach that keeps transportation running during the transition.
- Current-state assessment of LE-TRA shipment types, cost documents and custom logic
- Target process design mapped from shipment-based to freight order-based execution
- Data migration approach for open shipments, master data and carrier agreements
- Parallel-run and cutover planning to avoid disruption to live transportation operations
